Positioning and communication: how Katalink Global works
Right now, the real challenge in positioning — especially for software development companies actively transforming their business model and searching for the value they can genuinely bring given today's world — is this: pinpoint, research, and articulate exactly what a specific team and a specific owner do exceptionally well, and where, and for whom, they create the most value. That's what positioning is actually about today.
Our background

Real-time experience of business transformation across different eras, starting back in 2003–2004, navigating crises, consistently working out what clients actually need — the right approach, the right model, the right positioning, the right people for the task. Tanya brings 12 years working directly in communications — never as pure marketing, but always as the search for the real side of communications inside businesses, particularly software development companies of every stage and size. Twelve years of living through how the market shifted, how demand shifted, and how marketing and communication approaches evolved.
What's happening on the business side right now
Client needs, and trends have shifted dramatically over the past period — we need to look closely at the client themselves, at how they're changing as a person.
What clients say they want, and what they actually end up buying and keeping as long-term contracts, are two very different things — which is exactly why close attention matters.
The communication shift
Information noise is at an all-time high right now, which makes marketing significantly harder and more expensive. That's why the whole focus needs to be on whether we're targeting a specific niche, and whether that specific client clearly sees the value we bring.
A niche approach — sharp and specific, built around the exact language the client uses.
What matters today is building communication that lands with the customer on a behavioral, cognitive level — not communication that just looks good. That's exactly why we use an approach that isn't classic positioning work.
Rooting our work in what a business is actually doing — not in trends, not in competitors. Our task is to understand, quickly and deeply, what the business truly does, help the team see it clearly, package it, and test hypotheses fast.
We look closely at what clients already pay for — that's where the strongest sides live. Our focus stays on the present: how the team itself talks about the work. We find the archetype and the positioning from the inside, built around the company's real strengths and real approach, and help surface, sharpen, and package it so a client instantly recognizes exactly why to come here.
We set the pace of the process, and we own it fully — this never turns into an endless deck of 150 slides nobody opens. We stay hands-on at every step — meetings, documents, our own shoulder to the wheel — moving with the company's rhythm, while holding the line that speed matters now.
AI:
We build an information capsule for every project — feeding it dense, specific context so we stay precise throughout the work and keep checking ourselves for bias. AI has no role in creative decisions or final calls; it helps us hold context — language, phrasing, the project's own history — and keeps us from drifting away from it.
Our tools and approach
Customer Development as our core process — applied on every side: internally with team members, externally with key market players and current clients. This gives us the clearest possible read on reality, stripped of framing, revealing how people actually behave and what triggers them.
Our focus stays on building something the team can put to use tomorrow — a working document, and everything that supports it.
Along the way, Customer Development lets us quickly and precisely read how clients respond to specific pieces of work, turning that into notes and materials the team keeps using — building a working folder of grounded, useful material.
The owner starts to genuinely feel and understand differentiation — of themselves, their business, their team. What matters is not labeling this in words, but actually living it and understanding it.
That's why we build an iterative process: work → discussion → work → discussion, and each discussion becomes part of the final result — precision matters enormously here.
The team's side of this isn't easy, to be honest. But because we never build a marketing wrapper, and from the very first meeting we push to understand what's actually true and find the right explanation for it, we're never inventing something that isn't there — and the team doesn't need to fear that. There will be shifts in understanding, but they'll be logical, grounded in what people already do every day.
